North has strong showing at Guard and Percussion show

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - North Hagerstown High School made a strong showing at the Waynesboro Indoor Guard and Percussion Show at Waynesboro Area Senior High School Saturday.

Competing in the highest division, North took home the first-place trophy in the Blue Percussion competition and second place in the Blue Color Guard event.

Chambersburg took first-place honors in the Blue Color Guard competition, while Greencastle-Antrim High School took first in the Blue Percussion Ensemble event. Hancock earned second-place honors in the Bronze Color Guard competition.


Majorettes, drum lines and guards competed in four divisions; bronze, gold, white and blue. Placement in divisions was determined by scores from previous years, according to Vince Sanders, director of the Waynesboro Indoor Guard and chairman of the show.

Sponsored by the Keystone Indoor Drill Association, the competition is in its 19th year at the school.

When the fall sports season is over, the majorettes, along with the percussion section of the band, move inside, Sanders explained.

Placings for the event were:

Junior Majorettes - first place, Bellefonte Jr.; second place, Tyrone Jr.

Gold Majorettes - first place, Central Dauphin; second place, Northhampton

White Majorettes - first place, Bald Eagle Area; second place, Central Dauphin East

Blue Majorettes - first place, Tyrone; second place, Bellefonte

Gold Percussion Ensemble - first place, Dallastown; second place, Littlestown

Blue Percussion Ensemble - first place, Greencastle-Antrim

Gold Percussion - first place, Central Dauphin

Blue Percussion - first place, North Hagerstown, second place, Big Spring

Junior Guard - first place, Linganore Jr.

Bronze Color Guard - first place, Sykesville; second place, Hancock

Gold Color Guard - first place, Kent Island; second place, Central Dauphin

White Color Guard - first place, Arundel; second place, Linganore

Blue Color Guard - first place, Chambersburg; second place, North Hagerstown
