Medical center is evacuated

February 21, 2004

A partial loss of power caused equipment failure and smoke Friday morning at Robinwood Medical Center, evacuating more than 1,200 people from the facility, a hospital spokeswoman said.

About 9:15 a.m. Friday, the older two sections of the building experienced a partial loss of power, causing some equipment to fail and smoke, said Kelly Redmond, a hospital spokeswoman.

"Although there was no fire, they did evacuate the entire building of patients and staff," she said.

Employees and patients were allowed back into the building at 11 a.m., Redmond said. Allegheny Energy and fire departments responded to the scene, she said.
