Area roundup - McCollum nets 1,000 in Lions' win

ELDERSBURG, Md. - Brock McCollum scored 23 points, the last of which gave him 1,000 for his career in No. 5 Walkersville's 62-32 victory over Century on Friday night.

McCollum - a Herald-Mail All-Area First Team selection last year - added 10 rebounds, while Dave Berry had 11 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for Walkersville (17-4, 8-1).

Linganore 65 No. 2 Thomas Johnson 61

FREDERICK, Md. - Linganore moved into a tie for first place with Thomas Johnson in the MVAL Chesapeake with its road win.

The Lancers did it at the foul line. Linganore (18-2, 9-1) went 20 of 27 compared to 13 of 18 by TJ (17-3, 9-1).


Linganore also had a big advantage on the offensive boards and led by as many as seven points in the third period before hitting 10 of 14 from the line in the final period.

Drew Gaeng and Clinton Jones scored 13 points apiece for TJ and Chad Warren added 11.

Zach Hayes led Linganore with 13.

No. 8 Middletown 62 Winters Mill 44

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - John Keimig scored 20 points and added six assists and three steals as Middletown beat Winters Mill in the MVAL Piedmont

Jonathan Hall added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Knights (14-6, 6-2).

No. 9 Clear Spring 86 Catoctin 63

CLEAR SPRING - Cody Beard scored 26 points and added five assists to lead Clear Spring over Catoctin in the MVAL Antietam.

Alex Tyler added 24 points and seven rebounds for the Blazers (15-5, 7-5)

Adam Crone scored 16 points for Catoctin (6-13, 4-7), while Derrick Thompson added 14 points.

Georgetown Day 40 St. James 30

ST. JAMES - Matt Greissing had 12 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals for St. James as the Saints (7-12, 1-10) fell to Georgetown Day in the Mid Atlantic Conference.

Andrew Dana led Georgetown Day (6-15, 4-7) with eight points.

Mercersburg 67 Barrie School 36

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Norman Winn had 20 points and Carlos Campos added 16 as Mercersburg Academy defeated Barrie School in the first round of the Mercersburg Academy Invitational Tournament.

Sean Christiansen had nine points and Eric Rahauser added eight for the Blue Storm.

Other Invitational scores: Hill School 69, Linsly School 66; Solebury 51, Lake Forest 36; Western Reserve 60, Mercersburg JV 59.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jordan McBeth scored a game-high 20 points as Cumberland Valley Christian School tied Calvary for fourth place in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference.

Adam Romero had 16 points for Cumberland Valley (10-12, 7-7), while Clint Cubbedge had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Andrew Larson added 10 points.

Ryan Chaney led Calvary with 19 points, while Jordan Carrier had 16.


No. 4 Hedgesville 65 Musselman 52

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Jess Himic's game on Senior Night was her best of the year as she scored 15 points to lead Hedgesville (16-4).

Starting for only the second time this season, Himic scored six of Hedgesville's nine first-period points to keep the Eagles in the game.

Samantha Guell then took over with an eight-point second period as the Eagles outscored Musselman, 20-14. Guell had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Hedgesville.

Danielle Beciska had 14 points and Cameron Davis had 11 for Musselman (6-12).

Linganore 59, No. 6 TJ 48

LINGANORE, Md. - Brittany Simpson scored a game-high 22 points, leading Linganore (16-5, 7-4) past Thomas Johnson in the MVAL Chesapeake.

Kem Wilson led the Patriots (11-9, 6-5) with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Abra Like had 12 points and four assists and Porche Dorsey had 11 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

South Hagerstown 45 Brunswick 35

Jamie Fowler scored 21 points and South Hagerstown defeated Brunswick in the MVAL Antietam.

Caitlin Nicewarner added 10 points for the Rebels (3-17, 3-9).

Kristen Spencer had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Brunswick (7-13, 7-7).

Boonsboro 39, Williamsport 37

BOONSBORO - Janet Cole scored 13 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Boonsboro slipped past Williamsport in the MVAL Antietam.

Sarah Keyser added 11 points for the Warriors (10-11, 6-7).

Lindsey Plotner scored 16 points for the Wildcats (7-13, 6-7).

Berkeley Springs 48, Goretti 29

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Danielle Fox scored 19 points and added five assists and three steals to lead the Indians.

Emily McCoy had 18 points and 13 rebounds for Berkeley Springs (9-10).

Kate Martin had 12 points, five rebounds and five steals for Goretti (10-18).

New Life 44, Broadfording 38

FREDERICK, Md. - Connie Reginaldi scored 19 points to lead New Life Christian to a Mason Dixon Christian Conference win over Broadfording.

Laura Zerbe added 11 points, four assists and five rebounds for New Life (9-10, 7-7).

Tina Conner scored 13 points for Broadfording (9-14, 5-9), while Cindel Young had 11 points, 20 rebounds and five blocked shots.
