Elmer Kline Jr.


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elmer "Jack" Kline Jr., 79, of 934 Sunset Ave., Waynesboro, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at his home.

Born Aug. 22, 1924, in Smithsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Elmer L. Kline Sr. and Lottie Ott Kline.

Mr. Kline graduated from Smithsburg High School with the class of 1942.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 502nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery from 1943 through 1946. He participated in the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines and the invasion of Okinawa in the Pacific.

He and his wife of more than 57 years, Mrs. Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Crumbacker Kline were married Dec. 26, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md.

Mr. Kline was employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro for 45 years, retiring in 1987 as the manager of distributor sales.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, where he taught Sunday school and served on the church council.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Terry L. Kline of Chicago and Jeffrey C. Kline of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Miriam Gantz of Rouzerville, Pa.; one brother, Donald Kline of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Fleagle and Virginia L. "Dean" McCleaf.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro with the Rev. Richard A. Seaks officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family wishes the omission of flowers. Contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or the building fund of Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.




Alberta L. Johnson


Alberta Lorraine "Bunny" Johnson, 65, of 20526 Lehmans Mill Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at her home.

Born Oct. 24, 1938, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. and Catherine Jenkins Eyler.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, William R. Johnson, on Feb. 13, 2004.

She was a retired school bus driver with the Washington County Board of Education.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one son, Blaine Thomas Sr. of Jackson, Miss., and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Sara Jane Pletz, and one brother, Robert Eyler.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderveer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joe Tosten


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Joe Tosten, 89, of the Shook Home and formerly of 2064 Lincoln Way East, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at the Shook Home.

Born May 12, 1914, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late Oliver and Mary Robison Tosten.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Hull Tosten, and his second wife, Catherine Bollinger Tosten.

He retired as a self-employed truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 of Chambersburg and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by one son, Kenneth D. Tosten of Chambersburg, and two grandsons, Douglas R. Tosten of Fayetteville, Pa., and Rodney S. Tosten of Biglerville, Pa.

Services and burial will be private. Burial will be in Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery in Emmitsburg, Md.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.




Nellie M. Shelly


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Nellie Marie Wiles Shelly, 67, of Guilford Spring Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 5, 1936, near Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Preston and Anna Pauline Rubeck Wiles.

She attended Clear Spring School.

She was a member of Family Life Ministries in Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph M. Shelly; two stepdaughters, Norma J. Thomas and Judy A. Bonciu, both of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Dorothy Stotler and Marlene Gay, both of Hagerstown, and Nancy Barthelow and Mary Roberts, both of Clear Spring; two brothers, Gary Wiles of Clear Spring and James Wiles of Delaware; five stepchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and step-great-great-grandchildren.

There will be no viewing.




Karen L. Eshleman


Karen Lavonne Eshleman, 46, of 19218 Air View Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at her home.

Born Dec. 20, 1957, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of John M. and Orpha G. Martin Eshleman of Hagerstown.

She attended North Street Special Education and Kemp Horn Vocational Center.

She attended Paradise Mennonite Church and Sunday school.
