February 14, 2004

One of two men charged early Friday with burglarizing a vacant city-owned property on Jonathan Street was being held Friday night on $2,500 bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

Ciril Eugene Madison, 41, no fixed address, was charged with fourth-degree burglary, criminal trespass and damage to property.

Steven Lewis Nelson, 42, no fixed address, was charged with fourth-degree burglary, criminal trespass, damage to property and an additional charge of resisting arrest. He wasn't in custody Friday night, jail officials said.

Hagerstown Police Department officers responded to 212 N. Jonathan St. for a possible burglary that was reported at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Margaret Kline said.

A witness reported hearing glass break and the sound of several people moving inside the residence, police said.

One of the men was arrested without incident at the rear of the residence. The second man failed to comply with the orders of the officers to leave the residence but eventually was arrested by a police K-9 officer after a brief struggle.
