Resident deputies take 1,263 calls in 2003

WILLIAMSPORT - The Washington County Sheriff's Department's resident deputies responded to 1,263 calls in Williamsport in 2003, or 53 percent of the total calls, Mayor John W. Slayman said Monday.

Patrol deputies not assigned solely to the town responded to the remaining 1,106 calls.

Reading from a Sheriff's Department summary report, Slayman said the total number of calls in Williamsport - 2,369 - was up 9 percent from 2002.

Resident deputies made 129 criminal arrests, including 40 juvenile arrests.

Other deputies made an additional 39 arrests.
