Police investigating robbery at W.Va. motel

February 09, 2004

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Holiday Inn Express motel near the Spring Mills exit off Interstate 81 was robbed early Sunday, police said.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department is investigating the robbery, which occurred about 3:25 a.m.

Berkeley County Sheriff Randy Smith said Sunday he could not release many details of the robbery because he has not talked with investigators.

The suspect in the robbery was a white male and he fled the scene in a black pickup truck, Smith said.

Smith said he does not know if the man used a weapon in the robbery.

The motel is located off T.J. Jackson Drive, dispatchers said.

It is the second robbery in the county within a week.

Last Monday, a City National Bank branch in Inwood, W.Va., was robbed.

Two men wanted in connection with the robbery were found Wednesday night in Ohio, police said.

Benjamin Sine, 23, and Tony DeHaven, 23, both waived extradition and are expected to return to Berkeley County today, police said.

Arrest warrants have been issued charging Sine and DeHaven with armed robbery, police said.
