Frederick County Health services for families


FREDERICK, Md. - Lisa Wade, a registered nurse with the Frederick County Health Department, will discuss free and low-cost preventative medical services that are available for families - regardless of immigration status - at Frederick County Health Department.

The free program will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Hillcrest Elementary School, 1285 Hillcrest Drive. The snow date is Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The program will be presented with Spanish interpretation. Chinese and Korean interpretation can be provided if needed. The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and Frederick County Public Schools' English as a Second Language Program.

Children and teens with allergies


FREDERICK, Md. - Families Plus! will present "Taking Charge: Helping Children and Teens Manage Allergies" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at North Frederick Elementary School, 1001 Motter Ave. The program is free. The program will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, if it snows.

Debra Frye, supervisor of the School Health Division, will help parents and caregivers find ways to reinforce the importance of appropriate self-care when children and teens are away from home and adult supervision.

Couples' massage workshop


HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -The PALM Center for Holistic Wellness in Hedgesville will hold a couples' massage workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the center at 205 E. Main St.

Participants will focus on the back, neck and shoulders and learn basic techniques to care for loved ones and help reduce the effects of stress. Space is limited.

The cost is $60 per couple. A nonrefundable $30 deposit is required.

Attention deficit disorder program


Dr. Bruce E. Weneck of Partners in Pediatrics will present "Attention Deficit Disorders Made Easy" at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, and Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Partners in Pediatrics near City Park in Hagerstown. The seminar is available to teachers, parents and day-care providers.

Post adoption depression program


FREDERICK, Md. - Families Plus! will offer "After Adoption: Post Adoption Depression" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St.

Laura First, of the Jefferson School, will address this type of depression, discuss ways of avoiding it and ways to overcome it. The program is free. The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and the Frank Adoption Center.
