Police find guns, drugs at house


Maryland State Police officials said they and other law enforcement officials found guns, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and marijuana Thursday while searching a home on Mapleville Road.

The search was part of an investigation into threats Edwin Eyler Beard, 41, allegedly made against a trooper at the state police barracks Monday while he was being processed on other charges.

Police said they were called to 8246 Mapleville Road, north of Boonsboro, that day to investigate a complaint of a person shooting a gun from the residence.

Beard was charged at the time with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and reckless endangerment.

On Thursday, Maryland State Police, along with several other police, fire and narcotics enforcement agencies, allegedly found shotguns, rifles, blackpowder guns and handguns at the home. Police said they had a warrant.

Beard additionally was charged with making a threat of arson.

Police said Beard was convicted of a drug felony in 1994, making it illegal for him to own or possess firearms.

Beard was released from the Washington County Detention Center Friday on $40,000 bond.




Police apprehend driver after chase


Maryland State Police apprehended the driver of a vehicle following a pursuit Friday night that ended on Interstate 81.

The pursuit began on Pennsylvania Avenue, moved to State Line, Pa., then headed south on I-81 before ending at the off ramp on U.S. 40. The vehicle finally stopped when its tires were flattened with stop sticks.

The name of the driver was not available at press time.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department assisted in the pursuit.




Pa. man faces multiple charges


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A 21-year-old Pennsylvania man faces multiple charges in a sexual assault case involving a Franklin County girl, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said.

Adam Mason Hayes, of Hanover, Pa., was 19 at the time he allegedly had a sexual relationship with the girl, police said. The girl was 12 in the fall and winter of 2002, when the incidents allegedly occurred, police said.

Hayes is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors and tattooing a minor without parental consent, police said.

Hayes was arraigned Friday and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing.




Man injured in two-vehicle crash


QUINCY, Pa. - A Mont Alto, Pa., man was treated at Washington County Hospital and later released following a two-vehicle crash Friday on Slabtown Road, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg, Pa., said.

The man was identified as Jaye Walck, no age or address available.

According to police, Allanda Ankrum of Mercersburg, Pa., lost control of her vehicle on the slippery road and crashed head on into Walck's vehicle.

Ankrum was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Police said they did not know if Walck was wearing a seat belt.
