Alexander Costello


HALLTOWN, W.Va. - Alexander "Alec" Costello, 77, of Halltown, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Jan. 7, 1927, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry E. and Ada Dunn Costello.

He retired as a supply clerk from Halltown Paperboard Co. after 42 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Halltown Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder.

He had been a member of Harpers Ferry-Bolivar (W.Va.) Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris Clevenger Costello; one daughter Mary L. Edge of Halltown; one brother, Charles E. Costello of Charles Town, W.Va.; and two granddaughters.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Halltown Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Alvin Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Wilmer L. Miller


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Wilmer L. Miller, 79, of 1200 S. Main St., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at his home after a brief illness.

Born July 13, 1924, in Greene Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Nellie Pearl Middlekauff Miller.

He was a 1942 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was employed by T.B. Wood Sons for 45 years. He retired in 1992.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the 3Ms Choir, was superintendent of the Men's Bible Class and was in the 3Ms Adult Luncheon Group.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Kling Miller; one daughter, Heidi M. Houser of Frederick, Md.; one son, Gregory L. Miller of Chambersburg; two brothers, C. Malvern Miller of Fayetteville, Pa., and Jacob F. Miller Sr. of Chambersburg; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. John Dromazos will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eva L. Orange


Eva Louise Orange, 87, of 11908 Phylane Drive, Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare of Hagerstown.

Born in Hagerstown on Monday, April 3, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer G. and Eva Amelia Plummer Price.

She was the wife of James I. Orange. They were married for 57 years.

She was a 1934 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school her entire adult life. Eva was a loving and caring mother to her children, and especially devoted and supporting wife to her husband Jim, who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter Wilma J. Kubican of Wicomico, Md.; daughter Mary L. Casey of Charlottesville, Va.; daughter Ellen A. Orange of Midland, Va.; son John W. Orange of Charles County, Md.; son James I. Orange Jr. of Amissville, Va.; sister June M. Gaylor of Hagerstown; and sister Jeanne M. Reeser of Hagerstown. She also is survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul P. Price.

Services will be held at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. north, Hagerstown, on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thom Smith and the Rev. Mark Snyder officiating.

Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home.

Myrtle I. Layton


MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Myrtle Irene Glenn Layton, 93, of Fulton County Medical Center, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at the medical center.

Born Oct. 22, 1910, in Webster Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Hoyt and Louise Woodall Glenn.

She was a registered nurse at the Polyclinic Medical Center in Harrisburg, Pa.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Harrisburg.

She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a member of the Fulton County Historical Society.

She is survived by two sisters, Beatrice Secrist of Warrenton, Va., and Dorothy Glenn of McConnellsburg; and two brothers, Charles Glenn of Carlisle, Pa., and Ralph Glenn of McConnellsburg.
