Frank H. Rutkowski


KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Frank H. Rutkowski, 87, of Kearneysville, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Hillcrest Manor Home.

Born Oct. 28, 1916, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Stanley and Jenny Smith Rutkowski.

He had been a mill worker with Inland Steel Co.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife, Olive Rutkowski of Chicago Heights, Ill.; two daughters, Barbara Robinson of Kearneysville and Ruth A. Draper of Elsie, Mich.; and one son, Francis Rutkowski of Adrian, Mich.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.

Joan M. Boose


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joan M. Boose, 78, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at her home.

Born Aug. 11, 1925, in New York, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Jane Loughran Steinhauer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verle A. Boose.

She was employed by Wal-Mart.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley McLaughlin of Conifer, Colo.; two sons, David Boose of Round Rock, Texas, and John Boose of Bellevue, Wash.; two sisters, Jean Wagner and Jane Joseph, both of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Burial prayers will be said at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Md., on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va.

Lawrence E. Garling Sr.


FAIRPLAY - Lawrence Elwood Garling Sr., 75, of Lappans Road, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home.

Born March 4, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Milton Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Martin Garling.

He was owner/operator of Garling's Transmissions.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 10.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Garling; one daughter, Linda K. Beard of Hagerstown; two sons, Lawrence E. Garling Jr. of Williamsport and Danny L. Garling of Hagerstown; one sister, Nancy L. Hall of Accident, Md.; one brother, Robert P. Garling of Maugansville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry E. Garling.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Raymond N. Franklin Sr.


CHEVERLY, Md. - Raymond N. Franklin Sr., 91, of Cheverly, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Sept. 25, 1912, in Amherst County, Va., he was the son of the late Robert A. and Lena Pryor Franklin.

His wife, Caroline George Franklin, died Aug. 4, 1984.

He retired in February 1975 from United Life Insurance Co. in Brentwood, Md.

He is survived by two daughters, Joan Wean of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Diane Jones of Romney, W.Va.; one son, Donald Franklin of Mechanicsville, Md.; two sisters, Elsie Pryor of Cheverly and Lois Foster of Madison Heights, Va.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline Campbell, Emma Phillips, Doris Rodgers and Hesper Austin, and three brothers, Arthur Franklin, Herbert Franklin and Edward Franklin.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood. The Rev. Richard Stetler will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the cemetery chapel.

Robert B. Kirkpatrick Jr.


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert B. Kirkpatrick Jr., 72, of 200 N. Main St., Apt. 701, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab.

Born Oct. 2, 1931, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Robert and Violet Gabler Kirkpatrick.

He was a 1951 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He had worked as a nurse's aide and performed private duty nursing.

He attended Greenwood Hills Chapel and Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Wingert Kirkpatrick, whom he married Feb. 3, 1962; two sisters, Margaret K. Nicklas of Fayetteville, Pa., and Joanne Shira of Chambersburg; and one brother, Dr. Joseph G. Kirkpatrick of Fayetteville.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. William H. Kirkpatrick.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home Ltd., Chambersburg. The Rev. Thomas E. Horst will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 159 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
