Education initiatives announced

Future education initiatives presented to the Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday include:

  • Establishing a summer school transition program on math for some students moving from eighth grade to ninth grade.

  • Updating the science staff development plan.

  • Developing activities for students with disabilities to better understand algebra.

  • Adding a county high school mathematics resource teacher and a math student achievement specialist at South Hagerstown High School.

  • Providing a student achievement specialist for Antietam Academy and Washington County Technical High School to improve English education.

  • Organizing a task force to create a plan for excellence in English.

  • Hiring a high school English Language Arts coordinator.
