Edna M. Stouffer


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Edna M. Meyers Stouffer, 88, 0f 810 Buchanan Trail East, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at her home.

Born June 7, 1915, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Zola Kuhn Meyers.

Her husband, Fred H. Stouffer, died Sept. 22, 1992.

She was employed at the former Stanley Co. of Chambersburg, Pa., for 24 years.

She was a member of Brandt's Church of the Brethren near St. Thomas, Pa., where she served on the Women's Work Committee.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by one daughter, Marcelle K. Martin of Greencastle; one son, Fred E. Stouffer of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one sister, Flo Martin, a resident of Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Meyers and Ruth Bumbaugh; and two brothers, Raymond Meyers and Owen Meyers.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Brandt's Church of the Brethren. Pastor Rick E. Hostetter and the Rev. Charles R. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Upton (Pa.) Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, and at the church one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Brandt's Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 251, St. Thomas, PA 17252.




J. Leiter Garling


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - J. Leiter "Lite" Garling, 87, of 240 E. Madison St., and a resident of the Shook Home, Chambersburg, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 12, 1916, in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Samuel Scott and Katie S. Hoover Garling.

He retired after 55 years of service as a mechanic at the former Leiter's Hardware and Implements, Greencastle.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Greencastle.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. 1 of Greencastle.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna E. Saylor Garling; two daughters, Nancy L. Murray of Greencastle and Judy A. Garling of Carlisle, Pa.; one son, William K. Garling of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister and one brother, Kenneth Garling.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery, near Upton, Pa. Pastor Stacy Crawford will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.

Alice V. Koontz


SHARPSBURG - Alice Virginia Koontz, 90, formerly of 204 W. Chapline St. and most recently of Twin Oak Assisted Living in Williamsport, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Clyde and Manetta Gay Seamon Grove.

Her husband, Elmer C. Koontz, died in 1983.

She was employed by Londontowne Manufacturing Co. in Boonsboro.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara L. Mankins of Hagerstown; one son, Donald E. Koontz of Rockville, Md.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Martha K. Otzelberger; and one brother, Raymond D. Grove.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg. The Rev. John D. Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport, which will be open after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

James E. Hanlin


ST. THOMAS, Pa. - James E. Hanlin, 51, of St. Thomas, and formerly of Zullinger, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 29, 1952, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Jesse E. and Merle Clements Hanlin.

He was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He attended Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.

He is survived by two daughters, Anna M. Hanlin of Hagerstown and Angel E. Hanlin of Rouzerville, Pa.; and one sister, Jerle H. Martin of Denver, Pa.

Burial will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Doris F. Bumbaugh Cline, 78, of 14523 Carrosmar Farm Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at her home.
