McKee elected to lead delegation

January 17, 2004

Two Washington County lawmakers were chosen Friday to lead the Western Maryland Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly.

Del. Robert A. McKee, R-Washington, was elected chairman. Del. LeRoy E. Myers, R-Allegany/Washington, was elected vice chairman.

Myers had sought the top post, but said Thursday he was conceding it to McKee, who has nine years of experience in the House of Delegates. Myers just started the second year of his first four-year term.

The Western Maryland Delegation is made up of senators and delegates from Carroll County west to Garrett County.

"A wide variety of challenges face these five counties. I look forward to working with my fellow delegates and ensuring that the needs of Western Maryland are known and understood by our fellow legislators," McKee said.

McKee succeeds Del. George C. Edwards, R-Garrett/Allegany, who decided not to run because of his duties as minority leader of the House.
