Building healthy relationships seminar


FREDERICK, Md. - Families Plus! will offer "Building Healthy Relationships" from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St. There is no fee for the program.

Gregory Powell of Frederick Psychology Center, will share ways to sustain relationships and to keep them healthy and positive at home and at work.

Child Care Choices continued training credit is available to Maryland child-care providers.

Gifted and talented child program


FREDERICK, Md. - Families Plus! will offer "Supporting Your Gifted and Talented Child" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Hillcrest Elementary School, 1285 Hillcrest Drive. The snow date is Tuesday, Feb. 10. The program will be presented with Spanish interpretation, and if needed, also in Chinese and Korean.

Donna Chesno, coordinator of the Gifted and Talented, Renzulli Enrichment programs, will present ways parents and caregivers can support gifted and talented children and enhance their school success. The evening begins with a light supper at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 6 p.m.

The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and the Frederick County Public Schools' English as a Second Language Program. Child Care Choices continued training credit is available to Maryland child-care providers.

Anger management for parents, middle-schoolers


FREDERICK, Md. - Families Plus! will begin a six-week anger management group for parents and their middle school age children with Shauna Main of the Jefferson School, as facilitator. The group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 28, to March 3, at Families Plus!, 35 E. Church St. There is no charge.

The course will involve an interactive overview of anger management techniques, information on problem solving and communication skills.

Middle school transition for middle school children


FREDERICK, Md. - "Transition to Middle School: Making the Move Smoother for Special Needs Children" will be offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at North Frederick Elementary School, 1001 Motter Ave. The snow date is Thursday, Jan. 29.

The program is co-sponsored by Families Plus! and the Frederick County Public Schools' Counseling/School Support Services.

Deborah Buckman, special education coordinator for middle and high school, will share with parents the school system's policies and procedures for transitioning special needs children from elementary school to middle school. She will explain what aspects of this transition apply to all students as well as ways programs can adapt and change to meet the needs of individual students.
