Driver hurt when car runs into tree

SHARPSBURG - A Sharpsburg area woman was taken to Washington County Hospital on Tuesday evening after her vehicle ran into a tree, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The woman's two grandchildren, ages 5 and 7, were not hurt, police said.

Lesa Dawn Dufief, 47, of Tommytown Road northwest of Sharpsburg, was driving west on Bakersville Road north of Sharpsburg at around 6 p.m. when the vehicle left the road and hit the tree, police said.

Items stolen from Smithsburg home

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Police Department said about $2,500 worth of items were stolen from a residence Wednesday.

Police said a rifle BB gun, Susan B. Anthony coins, new sneakers and several pieces of jewelry were taken from a home in the 100 block of Kevin's Court. Police said an attempt to steal DVD players was unsuccessful because the resident returned to the home.


Police said entry was gained by prying open a rear door.
