State grant will go toward training costs


The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday accepted a $2,245 state grant to go toward training and certification costs for emergency medical dispatchers.

The County Commissioners received the grant from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services.

County ranks eighth in state tourism in '01


Washington County ranked eighth in Maryland in overall visitors in 2001, with more than 530,000 tourism trips, according to the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau's 2003 Annual Report.

CVB Board Chairman Ron Vitkun presented the report to the Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday.

The tourism numbers represent a 57 percent increase since 1997. Washington County was the most visited place in 2001 in the five Western Maryland counties, the report states.

The last complete year for statistics is 2001.
