Marvin H. Layton


McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Marvin H. Layton, 90, of 2935 Breezy Point Road, who died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Fulton County Medical Center, is survived by his wife, Helen P. Fix Layton, whom he married Dec. 12, 1939.




Beatrice L. Sours


Beatrice L. Sours, 64, of Summit Avenue in Hagerstown, who died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at her home, also is survived by brother Tom Montgomery of Hagerstown.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.




Chester L. Pogue


FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Chester L. Pogue, 84, of Beverly Healthcare, and formerly of 261 W. Queen St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the nursing center.

Born Jan. 3, 1920, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Chester L. and Ida N. "Coy" Pogue.

His wife, Helen Pogue, died in 1993.

He was employed for 15 years by BPO Elks Lodge 600 in Chambersburg.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Private graveside services will be held today at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.




Mabel B. Johnson


ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Mabel B. Johnson, 87, of 233 New York Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Jan. 4, 1917, in Sumter, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Sharper and Evelyna English.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City.

She is survived by one son, Charles Johnson of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Edgar L. Scott will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.




James R. Scott Jr.


James Richard Scott Jr., 45, of 321 S. Cannon Ave., Hagerstown, who died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at his home, also is survived by three daughters, Michelle Scott, Katlyn Scott and Nelly Scott, all of Hagerstown; and a brother, William G. Scott of Martinsburg, W.Va.

He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1976.




Anna M. Brechbill


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Anna M. Brechbill, 92, of 745 Norland Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Alterra Assisted Living, Chambersburg.

Born May 2, 1911, in Dallas Center, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary Nissly Baldner.

Her husband, Roy W. Brechbill, died in 1998.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of Chambersburg Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by two sons, Dale R. Brechbill of Chambersburg and Gary L. Brechbill of Collegeville, Pa.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Hogue; three brothers, Milton Baldner, Herman Baldner and Lawrence Baldner; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Manny Diaz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas (Pa.) Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, St. Thomas.




Tom R. Creamer


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Tom R. Creamer, 70, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born June 29, 1933, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Roland L. and Daisy Griffith Creamer.

He retired from Corning Glass.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a member of VFW American Legion and Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by one sister, Edna C. Butts of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by one son, Tom R. Creamer Jr.; three sisters, Betty Hess, Doris Hess and Anna M. Kees; and two brothers, Roland Creamer and Frank D. Creamer.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood, W.Va. The Rev. John F. Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Arden, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Penny L. McLane


BRUNSWICK, Md. - Penny Lynn Merriman McLane, 49, of 17 Peach Orchard Court, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at her home.

Born Nov. 15, 1954, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of Betty Merriman of Brunswick and the late Donald R. Merriman.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Brunswick.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Rymer of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister, Karen Cunningham of Brunswick; two brothers, Donald Merriman and Thomas Merriman, both of Brunswick; three half sisters, Terry James of Delmar, Calif., Cindy Payne of Leesburg, Va., and Kathy Sears of Brunswick.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Merriman.
