Public meetings set for historical park

January 12, 2004

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - The National Park Service will hold two public meetings this week about the new General Management Plan for Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.

The meetings will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Additional public meetings will be announced later in the planning process.

The General Management Plan will guide the future management and development of the park over the next 20 years. The previous plan, completed in 1980, guided the park through $55 million of public investment in infrastructure and capital improvements.

This month's meetings are part of the scoping process, through which the public is invited to inform the National Park Service about issues or concerns the plan should address.
