KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - A 51-year-old Jefferson County man was killed Friday night when his small passenger car and a Waste Management garbage truck collided on W.Va. 9 in Kearneysville, according to West Virginia State Police.

James Shank Jr., the driver of the 1989 Ford Escort, died in the 8 p.m. accident, West Virginia State Police Senior Trooper M.L. Dickerson said Saturday.

The Waste Management truck was westbound and the Escort was eastbound when the two vehicles hit head-on just past W.Va. 480, Dickerson said.

In a press release issued Saturday, Dickerson said he was waiting to contact a witness who left the scene after the accident but left a phone number where he could be reached.
