Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I went to the mailbox and got my mail out and I had a letter in there for someone in Arizona. How can a post office mess up this bad? Arizona compared to Maryland, they look nothing alike. This is terrible."

"For the people who think it's safer with jets flying so close and making all that noise. I don't feel safe and I don't want them."

"I am a resident on Oak Hill Avenue and I just wanted to wish my paper boy, John, a very happy holidays and to let him know how much his good service and dedication is appreciated. He is probably the best paper boy that we have had in Hagerstown."

"To the people complaining about the fighter jets. I appreciate hearing them also. But I don't think they should announce all over TV where our president is staying. It doesn't make sense to me."

"Mr. Martin wants to know why more liberals don't write letters to the editor. They do, it's just very rarely that they say anything memorable."

"The cattle industry twice lobbied successfully to have our senators and congressmen block laws that would have made more screening of our beef. That would have kept mad cow disease from reaching our market. But now the government is thinking of paying farmers with sick cows. It seems to me that the beef industry has won both ways and the American people have lost. It's time to throw our congressmen out."

"Someone said that Maryland needs slots because they can't afford the increase in gas and sales taxes. As slots will raise more money and pay off winners, how are Marylanders going to be able to afford them?"

"I don't always agree with Charley Reese, but I sure did in the Saturday, Jan. 3, paper in his last paragraph when he said he didn't think God was a Republican. I am sure glad he is Independent."

"Would the person come forward that backed into a 1999 Park Avenue Ultra Gold, four-door sedan at Hoffman's Country Market on Cearfoss Pike on Friday, Dec. 19, around 2:34 p.m.? It is on camera. Please report to the Sheriff's Department at 240-313-2100."

"Can you believe this? Pete Rose has been banned from baseball all these years. Yet, I see and hear in the news media about all the big sports figures who are rapists, killers, gamblers and drug addicts and they get a slap on the wrist. This doesn't seem fair to me. What a hypocritical world we live in."
