Hostler lifts hosts to JB Holiday Classic title

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Tournament MVP Drew Hostler had 23 points, 19 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead James Buchnan past Biglerville 58-39 in the championship game of the James Buchanan Holiday Classic on Tuesday.

Arin Zimmerman had 13 points for the Rockets (4-7) and was named to the all-tournament team along with JB's Shase Hollenshead.

Brock Grimm had 22 points for Biglerville.

St. John's-PH 61, Kennedy 42

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Al Sowers had a game-high 15 points to lead St. John's at Prospect Hall past Kennedy School for a fifth-place finish at the Gaithersburg Fight for Sight Tournament.

The Vikings (7-6) committed only one first-half turnover en route to a 38-17 halftime advantage. Tanner Ellis had 12 points and five assists and Sean Brennan had seven rebounds.

Meade 60, Frederick 43

FREDERICK, Md. - Craig McIntyre had 15 points, but it wasn't enough as Frederick fell to Meade in the consolation game of the Frederick Holiday Classic at Frederick Community College.

Robbie Davis had 12 points and nine rebounds and Brad Wiley had nine points and four assists for the Cadets (3-3).

Smithsburg 31, York Tech 30

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - T.J. Bowser had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead Smithsburg past York Tech in the consolation game of the James Buchanan Holiday Tournament. Drew Crawford added 11 points for the Leopards (2-5).

Littlestown 54, Waynesboro 53

NEW OXFORD, Pa. - Kevin Sanders had 13 points and eight rebounds and Earl Hewitt had 11 points for Waynesboro as the Indians (2-8) came up short in the New Oxford Christmas Tournament consolation game.

Walkersville 64, St. Vincent Pallotti 58

FREDERICK, Md. - Tournament MVP Luther Weedon had 34 points and four assists to lead Walkersville past St. Vincent Pallotti in the championship game of the Frederick Community College Holiday Classic.

Brock McClollum had 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals for the Lions (5-3).

Goretti 56, Southern Garrett 47

St. Maria Goretti hit 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off a late rally by Southern Garrett.

Joey Spierenburg had 10 points to lead Goretti, which led from start to finish.

Mike Nelson had nine points and Trevor Cobb and Tim Alexander each added eight for the Gaels (6-4).

Brunswick 63, Middletown 54

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Jason Anderson and Bill Bernard each had 17 points to lead Brunswick past host Middletown to win the Ron Engle Classic.

Craig Wachter had 14 points, Cody Hickerson had nine points and seven assists and Anderson added eight rebounds for Brunswick (4-3), which won its fourth straight game.

Anderson was named tournament MVP and Wachter was named to the all-tournament team for the Railroaders (4-3). Pat Carney and Kyle Lear each had 10 points for Middletown. Carney and Joe Keimeg were named to the all-tournament team for the Knights (6-2).


James Buchanan 60, Tyrone 31

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - James Buchanan used its pressure defense to make 18 steals and the Rockets rolled past Tyrone to win the James Buchanan Christmas Classic.

Tournament MVP Amanda Snider had 16 points, six steals and five assists, while Courtney West added 11 points and seven rebounds for JB (8-3). West and teammate Alicia Myers were named to the all-tournament team.

Hilary McNelis led Tyrone with 15 points.


Brunswick 3rd at Joppatowne

JOPPA, Md. - After losing its first three matches on Day 1 at the Joppatowne Duals, Brunswick rebounded to win its final three matches on Day 2 and finish in third place with a 3-3 record.

Terry Bartholomew (112 pounds) and Kris Hale (140) each posted 6-0 records in the meet, while Mike Leveille (145), Chad Stocks (160), A.J. Bartholomew (103) and Jon Hawkins (125) each were 5-1.

Stocks also recorded the fastest pin at 6 seconds for the Railroaders (6-3).
