MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Two people were killed Sunday afternoon in a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on Pa. 16, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said.

The operator of the motorcycle, William Ray Harne, 29, of 9240 Garnes Road, Mercersburg, Pa., and the driver of the vehicle, D. Marguerite Newkirk, 80, of 780 Stouffer Ave., Chambersburg, Pa., both were pronounced dead at the scene at 5 p.m., Conner said. A third person, a woman in Newkirk's vehicle, was flown from the scene to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center by Life Lion helicopter, he said.

Harne died of blunt-force multiple trauma in the 4:41 p.m. accident, Conner said. An autopsy will be performed today at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa., to determine the cause of death for Newkirk, he said.

Conner said Harne was westbound just east of the Welsh Run Road intersection in Montgomery Township when the eastbound vehicle entered his lane.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the accident and an accident reconstructionist was called to the scene. State police still were at the scene as of 10 p.m. and further details were not available.

A Franklin County emergency communications dispatcher said Pa. 16 reopened at 9:38 p.m. Fire police from around the county were detouring traffic around the scene before then.
