The Hagerstown Police Department charged two city men Saturday in connection with alleged drug activity at a downtown residence.

Police allege marijuana plants were being grown inside an East Washington Street residence.

Police said officers from the Street Crimes Unit searched 212 E. Washington St. at 8:20 p.m. Saturday and charged Gerald Brian Raikes, 36, of that address, and Timothy A. McCarty, 39, of 1620 Woodlands Run.

Raikes was charged with possession of hashish, cocaine and drug paraphernalia, manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and three counts of possession of marijuana, police said.

McCarty was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Police allege officers found 10 marijuana plants, numerous lights and other materials to grow the drug. Police said the operation was initiated in response to numerous citizen complaints about drug activity at the residence.
