Adoption classes

FREDERICK, Md. - Adoption 101, The Journeys and Joys of Adoption, will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday evenings, Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hahn Building, 35 E. Church St.

The classes are open to all families interested in adoption. They are offered by Frank Adoption Center and will be taught by members of the center staff.

The cost is $100 per couple, or $75 for single parents.

The class can be used to fulfill education credit requirements for adoptive parents that will be required by the Hague Convention Regulations for International Adoption.

Winter weekend for teens

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - All teens in grades 9 to 12 are invited to a winter weekend at Camp Joy El, Friday, Jan. 30, through Sunday, Feb. 1.

The speaker will be Steve Layne, an associate professor of New Testament Greek and Biblical Studies at Washington Bible College.

Saturday afternoon retreat participants will go to Whitetail Resort for snow tubing.

The cost of the weekend is $54 if registered by Friday, Jan. 23, and $59 after that date. Tubing at Whitetail is an extra cost of $10.

SAT tips seminar

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -First in Your Family and Sylvan Learning Center will conduct a free SAT test tips seminar from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Jefferson High School auditorium. The workshop is part of the First in Your Family community outreach program.

The workshop is designed for students in grades nine through 11, including those who may be just thinking about college or actually taking the SAT exam this spring. The seminar instructs students on how to navigate the world of college admissions tests and will offer some strategies to boost their SAT scores. Parents are welcome to attend.

There will be a prize drawing for an individualized SAT prep course, valued at $940, provided by Sylvan Learning Center.
