Hoffman leads Eagles to tourney title

LEWISBURG, W.Va. - Jennifer Hoffman scored 11 of her 18 points in the first half as Hedgesville beat Greenbrier East 67-58 in the final of the Dick Gannoe Christmas Tournament on Saturday.

Miranda Reed had 21 points, five assists and four steals and Tiffany Lynn added 13 points for the Eagles (3-1).

Greencastle 58, Camp Hill 48

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jessica Statler scored 14 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to lead Greencastle's victory.

Statler and Kris Root each had seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (3-4).

JB 53, Greencastle 50

MERCERSBURG, Pa- Courtney West and Amanda Snider each scored 17 points to lead James Buchanan (6-3) past Greencastle on Friday.

Root had 17 points and Statler had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils (2-4).

St. John's-PH 67 Notre Dame Prep 54

BALTIMORE - Monica Merkel had 25 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists and eight steals to lead St. John's at Prospect Hall over Notre Dame Prep. Marah Strickland had 19 points for the Vikings (4-4).



Camp Hill 60, Greencastle 34

CAMP HILL, Pa. - Camp Hill outscored Greencastle in every quarter on its way to a big win at home.

Adam Wiestling, Erick Burkholder and Brett Hoffman each had six points for the Blue Devils (3-6).

Chambersburg 28 Central York 20

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg capitalized on late free throws and key turnovers to outscore Central York 10-0 in the fourth quarter and get the victory.

Chas Rahauser and Colby Nitterhouse combined for eight of the Trojans' 10 points in the final period. Nitterhouse was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and finished with a game-high 10 points for Chambersburg (5-4).

Williamsport 67, Hancock 46

WILLIAMSPORT - Will Roney scored 22 points and keyed a 27-point second quarter with eight as Williamsport improved to 4-0.

Phil Jordan and Dave Warrenfeltz each had 11 points and Jordan chipped in with seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Brad Spielman had 18 points for Hancock (0-5).


Eastern Panhandle Invitational

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Jefferson's Kate Atkinson won the girls 200-yard individual medley in 2:50.72 and the 100 backstroke in 1:15:29, as the Cougars girls topped Martinsburg, 322-110.

Jefferson's Zack Rogers won the 100 backstroke in 1:10.04, as the Cougars boys topped Martinsburg, 249-109.


Mercersburg wins tourney

ANNAPOLIS - Mercersburg Academy had 12 wrestlers place in the top four of their weight classes - including three champions - and the Blue Storm won the Ed Perry Tournament.

Sam Carrasco (112 pounds), Brad Nielson (160) and Brett Gallaway (171) won their weight classes, while Ryan Reid (145), John Shartle (152) and Matt Englehart (189) each placed second. Graham Zifferer (119) and Jamar Galbreath (215) each placed third, and Nick Mazzei (103), Jonathan Edwards (125), Alex Appleman (135) and Jordan Gouline (275) each placed fourth for Mercersburg (4-0).

Nielson was 3-0 in the tournament and remains undefeated at 11-0. Gallaway was also 3-0 in the tourney and is 10-1, while Carrasco was 2-0 in the tournament and is 9-1.

The Blue Storm won the tournament with 209.5 points, followed by Colvert with 176.5 points and Spalding with 146 points.

Williamsport seventh

DAMASCUS, Md. - Williamsport finished seventh out of 12 teams and had five wrestlers place in the top three in their weight classes at the Damascus Tournament.

Spencer Peyton (125 lbs) and Ryan Bowers (130) each earned second place finishes, while Earl Neville (103), Jeff Short (135) and Adam Bridendolph (140) each placed third for the Wildcats (2-2).
