Tyler fuels unbeaten Blazers

CLEAR SPRING - Alex Tyler scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, as Clear Spring topped Winters Mill 69-50 Friday night to remain unbeaten.

Mike Snyder had 13 points for the Blazers (4-0), while Cody Beard had six points and six assists.

T.J. Conner led Winters Mill with 16 points.

Archbishop Spalding 61 No. 7 St. Maria Goretti 41

SEVERN, Md. - University of Connecticut recruit Rudy Gay scored 19 points to lead Archbishop Spalding over St. Maria Goretti in the Baltimore Catholic League season opener for both teams.

Goretti (4-4) got within eight points of Spalding early in the third period, 30-22, before the hosts went on a 19-0 run, getting 12 points from the 6-foot-8 Gay in the stretch.

Joey Spierenburg led Goretti with 11 points and Mason Herman had five rebounds.

No. 8 SJPH 76, Latrobe 59

HOLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - Al Sowers hit five 3-pointers on his way to a career- and game-high 31 points, leading St. John's at Prospect Hall to a first-round win over Latrobe Area in the first round of the Holidaysburg Roundball Classic.


Tanner Ellis scored 15 points for the Vikings (5-2), while Gonzalo Aparicio had 11 and Corey Dorsey had 10.

Jeff Garcia led Latrobe (4-2) with 20 points.

No. 8 Middletown 68 Catoctin 34

MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Joe Keimig had 24 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and nine steals for Middletown in the Knights' win over Catoctin.

Kyle Lear scored 12 points for Middletown (4-1), which led by 25 points at halftime.

FISHERTOWN, Pa. - Will Schriver had 27 points and 14 rebounds and Brock Flowers scored 19 points, including five three-pointers, for Southern Fulton (2-2).

Drew Kidd led all scorers with 27 points and had 10 rebounds and eight steals for Heritage Academy (3-4, 2-0 MDCC) in the Eagles' win over Grace Academy (1-2, 1-2 MDCC).

Century 53, Smithsburg 42

ELDERSBURG, Md. - Nathan Steelman hit three 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 13 points for Smithsburg, but it wasn't enough as the winless Leopards fell to Century.

Drew Crawford had 10 points for the Leopards (0-4), while T.J. Bowser had seven points and six boards.

Greencastle 55, JB 43

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Clayton Marquiss had 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocks to lead Greencastle to a Mid-Penn Colonial win over James Buchanan.

Chris Kiser had 13 points and Erick Burkholder grabbed nine rebounds for the Blue Devils (3-5).

Brandon Bryan had 14 points and David Morrow had 11 for the Rockets (2-6).

Westmar 73, Boonsboro 51

LONACONING, Md. - Jason Lee had 20 points, Russell Miller had 18 and Dan Duncan had 15 as Westmar jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and rolled past Boonsboro.

Brad Wetzel had 21 points and six rebounds and Sean Gregg had 10 points for the Warriors (1-4).

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - T.J. Vernoy had an all-around game to lead Walkersville over Thomas Johnson.

The senior had six points on a pair of 3s, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals as the defending 2A state champions remained perfect through five games.

Chelsea Trout and Gina Casadei led Walkersville (5-0) with 14 and 11 points.

Freshman Kem Wilson had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Sam Koehl had five steals for Thomas Johnson (2-2).

No. 2 Middletown 46 Catoctin 44

THURMONT, Md. - Allie Shannon and Jill Holian each made a pair of key free throws down the stretch to break a tie game and help Middletown avoid the upset effort by Catoctin.

Sara Wastler had four 3-point goals to lead Catoctin (2-3), while Kristen Waeber and Jill Martin each tallied 12 points for Middletown (4-0).

No. 9 Heritage 44, Grace 16

Heidi Stamper scored 12 points and controlled the glass with 23 rebounds to lead Heritage Academy (6-2). Heather Stamper scored 11 points and added 12 rebounds.

Lisa Horochowski had nine points, all on 3-pointers, for Grace Academy.

Century 46, Smithsburg 39

SMITHSBURG - Katlyn Willard scored 17 points as Century knocked off Smithsburg for the second time this season.

Tara Bywaters had nine points and nine rebounds and Tara Knable had nine points and six rebounds for the Leopards (1-4).

Frankfort 61 Berkeley Springs 42

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Julie Cessna had 26 points and Jennifer Cessna added 17 as Frankfort made 10 3-pointers to sink Berkeley Springs.

Heather Shaw had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Indians (1-2), while Danielle Fox had 10 points and Emily McCoy added seven rebounds.

Linganore 82, Brunswick 46

NEW MARKET, Md. - Leah McCallum led Brunswick with 15 points, 13 rebounds, six steals, six assists and two blocks.

Alicia Stauffer had 11 points and four assists and Brianne Walters added five steals and four rebounds for the Railroaders (0-4).

Hedgesville 69 North Marion 47

LEWISBURG, W.Va. - Samantha Guell led Hedgesville, tallying 16 points and nine rebounds in the Eagles' win over North Marion in the Greenbrier East Tournament.

Tiffany Linn had 10 points and nine rebounds, Jennifer Hoffman had 14 points, Amanda Dellinger grabbed 10 rebounds and Tiffany Linn added nine boards for Hedgesville (2-1).

Boonsboro 55, Fort Hill 54

BOONSBORO - With their team down by two points after three quarters, Caitlyn Selby scored seven of her 13 points and Jessie Ambrose scored nine of her 12 points in the final quarter, fueling Boonsboro's comeback win over Fort Hill.

Jerica Hewett had 12 points and five assists while Selby added 13 rebounds and Janet Cole had 11 rebounds for the Warriors (2-3).

Winters Mill 66, Clear Spring 8

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Maria Neville led all scorers with 11 points for Winters Mill in its defeat of Clear Spring (0-3).
