Rosalie E. Ridenour


BIG POOL - Rosalie Ella Ridenour, 92, of Big Pool Road, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Clearview Nursing Home in Hagerstown, Md.

Born April 4, 1911, in Black Oak, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Isaiah and Catherine Bishop Burton and the widow of Howard M. Ridenour, who died in August 1968.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool, Md.

She is survived by four daughters, Edna V. Mentzer and Betty J. Burgan, both of Hagerstown, Peggy J. Iennaco of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Sylvia J. DeShong of Thomasville, Pa.; two sons, Albert Ridenour of Big Pool, and Robert L. Ridenour of Conococheague, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter; three sisters, Blanche Wink, Olive Burton and Stella Burton; and four brothers, Sherman Burton, Filmer Burton, Charles Burton and Jackson Burton.

A service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool. The Rev. Scott Shumaker will officiate. Burial will be in the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Warfordsburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, and at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. on Monday.

Helen N. Goulette


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Helen Norma Gibson Goulette, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Manor Care Health Center in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 14, 1924, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Norman Emmett and Helen Geiger Gibson.

She was a 1942 graduate of Overbrook High School in Philadelphia.

She was a member of Hamilton Lutheran Church in Sciota, Pa.

She volunteered for Quiet Valley Historical Farm and modeled for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

She was a ballroom dance instructor.

She retired as an executive secretary to the dean of East Stroudsburg State College, Pa. and was a secretary with the Pennsylvania Railroad.

She is survived by her sons, Terry L. Rush of Cherry Hill, N.J., Geoffrey E. Freeman III of Greencastle, and Richard R. Freeman Sr.; her twin sister, Helena Loi Gibson Clark of Bryn Mawr; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Goulette; and two brothers, Jack Gibson and Norman Gibson.

Services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Darlene Kline will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donna J. Kennedy


Donna June Kennedy, 61, of 233 Taylor Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 26, 1942, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William and Elva Mae Wilson Vance.

She was employed by Super Shoe Store for 13 years.

She as a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God.

She volunteered at Reeder's Memorial Home.

She is survived by her special friend, Abraham Framm of Hagerstown; three sons, Jami Kennedy, Dave Kennedy and John Kennedy, all of Hagerstown; two sisters, Gladys Sullivan of Funkstown and Claudine Harbaugh of Hagerstown; five brothers, Richard Vance, Mike Vance and William Vance, all of Hagerstown, Charles Vance of Funkstown and Lee Vance of Williamsport; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Sondra Vance, Vana Hartman, Margie Slusher and Madeline Keeney; and one brother, Phillip Vance.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Howard C. Leather


SMITHSBURG - Howard C. Leather, 91, of 13647 Edgemont Road, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born in Edgemont, Md., Feb. 29, 1912, he was the son of the late Keller David and Gertrude Elizabeth Myers Leather.

He was a self-employed farmer; the owner and operator of the Leather Mountain Spring Water Business; a school bus contractor for Washington County; worked for Landis Machine Company in Waynesboro, Pa.; Western Maryland State Hospital in Hagerstown; and retired from Fairchild Aircraft in 1977.
