Genevieve Shank


WILLILAMSPORT - Genevieve "Geneva" Shank, 89, formerly of Falling Waters Road, Williamsport, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Oct. 5, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Neva Goens Howell.

Her husband, Linnie Shank, died in 1988.

She is survived by three brothers, Joseph Howell, George Howell and Edgar Howell.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Green Lawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. Bill Clark will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.




Betty B. Jackson


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Betty B. Jackson, 76, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at City Hospital.

Born Feb. 11, 1927, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of Anna M. Brogues Ford of Martinsburg and the late Julian Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jackson.

She retired from City Hospital.

She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Senior Choir.

She is survived by cousins.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Hosea L. Hodges will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 532 W. Martin St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.




Genevieve C. Gipe


SPRING RUN, Pa. - Genevieve C. "Peg" Gipe, 69, of 20269 Spring Run Road, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born Oct. 16, 1934, in Spring Run, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Martha Coons Coons.

She retired in 1955 and had been employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission at a restaurant.

She was a member of Spring Run United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce L. Gipe, whom she married June 13, 1952; one son, Randy E. Gipe of Spring Run; one sister, Berniece Shatzer of Spring Run; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Traxler and Mary Shaner; and one brother, Victor Coons.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, Pa. Pastor Michael S. Bumgardner and the Rev. Darwin Goshorn will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Dry Run.

Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.




Jerry L. Martin


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jerry L. Martin, 50, of 10655 Bailey Spring Road, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Waynesboro Hospital, where he had heart surgery two weeks ago. His death was attributed to a heart attack.

Born Jan. 2, 1953, in Fannett Township, Pa., he was the son of Kenneth E. and Ada Eshleman Martin of Smithsburg.

He attended Paradise Mennonite School.

He was a truck driver for construction and was working for Pleasants Construction Co. in Clarksburg, Md.

He was a member of Paramount Brethren in Christ Church, Hagerstown.

He was a member of Blue Ridge Summit (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Co., where he served with fire police for a short time. He also had been a member of the Funkstown Lions Club.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Naomi C. Burkholder Martin, whom he married March 1, 1973; two daughters, Rachel J. Shoup of State Line, Pa., and Velma M. Martin of Hagerstown; five sons, Clarence K. Martin of Marion, Pa., Richard E. Martin of Hagerstown, Amos L. Martin of Waynesboro, and Leonard R. Martin and Albert L. Martin, still at home; two sisters, Regina Williams and Joyce Bolyard, his twin, both of Smithsburg; two brothers, Gerald Martin of Hagerstown and Marlin Martin of Smithsburg; eight grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Paramount Brethren in Christ Church. Pastor James R. Stauffer will officiate. Burial will be in Antietam Cemetery(Price's), near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.

Leona P. Zeis


FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Leona P. Zeis, 71, of 13525 Rosenberry Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at her home.

Born March 4, 1932, in Bedford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Minnie Diehl Fletcher.

She was employed by Worldwide Kitchens (formerly Corning Glass Works), of Greencastle, Pa., for 25 years, retiring in 1995.

She was a member of Whips Cove United Church of Christ, Warfordsburg, Pa., and had attended Fort Loudon United Methodist Church and was a member of Adult Fellowship Sunday School class.

She was a member and past president of Ladies Auxiliary of Mercersburg Sportsman's Association and a member of Fort Loudon Community Center.
