Mail Call

December 04, 2003

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"I want to thank the nice couple who helped me on Sunday in the parking lot at Old Orchard Shopping Center. You helped me with my rather stupid injury and got me calmed down. I've been telling everyone how very nice you were. Thank you again."

"Apparently taking your name and putting it on the Do Not Call List was only 50 percent successful. I know for a fact that politicians and charities can call you. If I want to donate to someone, I will get in touch with them, they don't have to keep bothering me."

"Have you noticed the 'buy one, get one free' in the ads for the grocery stores? If you are a smart shopper, in most cases you will see that they cost you more than if they weren't on sale. Like a supermarket will have two soft drink items for $7, well, the week before you could have bought them for $4. Don't be fooled by those ads."

"I would like to thank Karen and Buck Knight and Brad Kline for finding my husband's necklace that meant so much to him. Thanks for being so kind and so honest. God will reward you all for being so honest. Thanks again, D.D."

"I was traveling on Salem Avenue extended and my Bible, which was in a black leather case, was on top of the car by accident and the wind blew it off. If anyone finds it lying along the Cearfoss/Salem Avenue Pike, please call 301-842-2844 or 301-739-2319."

"I was wondering. Does Tim Rowland get free advertising in The Herald-Mail?"

"On the front page of The Daily Mail on Nov. 28, it shows a picture of a very young child peeling potatoes. Is he using a knife and how do you spell peel?"
