Allison Grove, an eighth-grader at E. Russell Hicks Middle School, was named the Youth of the Month for October and was recognized Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners.

The Washington County Community Partnership for Children and Families sponsors the award every month.

Allison is the daughter of Thomas and Suzanne Grove. She was nominated by her teacher Kelly Klein.

Allison is a People to People Alumni Ambassador and traveled throughout Europe during the summer of 2003. As part of that program, she plans to travel this summer to New Zealand and Australia, according to a written statement.

She has been on the honor roll every marking period during the last three years.

"I don't think too many people can say that," County Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook told Allison as he presented her with the award.

Allison is a member of the E. Russell Hicks chorus and performed with her classmates with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. She also performed at the Washington County Chorus Festival and the Maryland State Chorus Festival.

She is vice president of the E. Russell Hicks Student Council. She plays soccer with the Williamsport Youth Soccer League, plays volleyball, takes piano lessons and cheers with the Hagerstown Thunder, according to the statement.

Allison attends St. John's Lutheran Church with her family. At church, she serves regularly as an acolyte, volunteers in the nursery, and participates in her youth group and youth choir.

"In my seven years as a teacher, I have never met such a talented, intelligent, dedicated and responsible student," Klein said in a written statement.

The commissioners presented Allison with a certificate and a $50 savings bond.

Snook told Allison the commissioners were proud of her.
