Roundup - Spartans start season with tourney victory

THREE SPRINGS, Pa. - Josh Lowery scored 10 points for McConnellsburg as the Spartans won their opener in the Tip-Off Tournament by defeating Southern Huntingdon 46-40 on Friday night.

Joey Boer had 11 rebounds, while Matt Spriggs added 10 rebounds and nine assists for McConnellsburg (1-0).

Northeastern 60, Greencastle 27

MANCHESTER, Pa. - Erick Burkholder lead Greencastle with eight points, but the Blue Devils (0-1) lost their season opener.

Lower Dauphin 54, Waynesboro 46

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Bryce Rodgers had 12 points and five rebounds as Waynesboro opened its season with a loss.

Scott Livengood had 11 points and Kevin Sanders added 10 for the Indians.


J. Buchanan 57, Mechanicsburg 52

CARLISLE, Pa. - Courtney West led James Buchanan with 16 points and six rebounds as the Rockets won their season opener at the Carlisle Tournament, defeating Mechanicsburg.


Amanda Snider scored 14 points while Susan West had seven steals and Leana Cristofano added six rebounds for the Rockets (1-0).

James Buchanan withstood a 19-4 fourth-quarter rally by Mechanicsburg for the victory.


Virginia Union 92, Shepherd 82

SALISBURY, N.C. - Cassie Murray led Shepherd with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists, but the Rams fell to Virginia Union in the Catawba Classic.

Lindsay Stewart had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Casey Landrum added 13 points and four rebounds for Shepherd (1-4).
