Janet E. Eberly

QUINCY, Pa. - Janet E. Eberly, 95, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 9299 Rabbit Road south, Greencastle, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born July 5, 1908, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Grace Gossard Perry.

Her husband, Harry K. Eberly, died in 1979. They were married July 8, 1926.

She was employed at the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg.

She was a member of Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church near Upton, Pa., where she was a Sunday school teacher.

She was a member of Greencastle Senior Center; served on the Franklin County W.C.T.U. as vice president and promotion secretary, and served as president of the Greencastle chapter; served as president of the Advisory Council on Aging, and served two terms on its board of directors of Legal Services; and Cumberland Valley Craftsmen. She was Woman of the Year in Franklin County in 1972.


She is survived by one son, Rodney P. Eberly of Greencastle; one sister, Louise Burkholder, a resident of Menno-Haven in Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Coldsmith; one son, Richard L. Eberly; one sister, Kathryn Easton; and five brothers, Chester Perry, Robert Perry, Earl Perry, Ben Perry and Kenneth Perry.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle. The Rev. Dennis L. Ritchey will officiate. Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

Altie E. Mills

KNOXVILLE, Md. - Altie Ellsworth Mills, 95, of 19849 Brownsville Road, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at her home.

Born Aug. 31, 1908, in Downsville, she was the daughter of the late David C. Mills and Abby Ellsworth Fowler Grimm.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Mills, in 1992.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by six children, Paul K. Mills, Howard J. Mills, Dorothy Fravel and Fay E. Virts-Fleming, all of Brownsville, Ralph V. Mills of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Ortence E. Mills of Martinsburg, W.Va.; 33 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; and 57 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rachel L. Gibbs and Patricia D. Mills.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Daniel M. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bakersville, Md.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro.

Robert O. Miller

CASCADE - Robert Olin "Bob" Miller, 81, formerly of 25305 Cascade Road, Cascade, Md., and since Oct. 31, 2003, a resident of the Quincy United Methodist Home in Quincy, Pa., died there Friday, Nov. 28. He was the husband of Dorothy P. Wetzel Miller, whom he married Nov. 24, 1945.

Born June 25, 1922, in Columbiana, Ohio, he was a son of the late John William and Martha Keyser Miller.

Mr. Miller served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and was in Anzio, Africa, Italy and Salerno. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African and Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. Following discharge, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed as a carpenter with Robert O. Miller and Son Carpenter Contractors. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman Association. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who enjoyed his grandkids, fishing and reading.

Surviving besides his wife, are five children, Dennis L. Miller of Cascade, Richard W. Miller and wife Dottie of Thurmont, Md., Donna J. Miller, Wanda S. Ditch and husband John, and Timothy A. Miller and wife Patricia, all of Cascade.

Eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, also survive. Also his sister, Lois Beck of Columbiana, many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Miller and Marion Miller.

Mr. Miller is at the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont, where friends may call Sunday Nov. 30, from 1 to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home with the Rev. Terry Foor, pastor of St. Stephens United Church of Christ, Cascade, officiating.

Interment will be in Eylers Valley Cemetery.

Louise F. Shatzer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Louise Fisher Shatzer, 86, of Manorcare Health Services, 1070 Stouffer Ave., and formerly of 4680 Coontown Rd., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the nursing home.
