Erhard Hagmann


Erhard Hagmann, 40, of 17916 Pin Oak Road, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.

Born in Krems an der Donau, Austria on Saturday, Nov. 2, 1963, he was the son of the late Johann Hagmann and Marianne Angerer Hagmann-Sumerer who survives him of Langenlois, Austria.

He was the husband of Laura L. Haught Hagmann. They were married for 15 years.

He was a 1992 graduate of Georgetown University and was employed with the Coca Cola Nigerian Bottling Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and daughter, Olivia Lee Hagmann, at home; son, Jakob Karl Hagmann at home; sister, Marianne Haimerl of Langenlois; brother, Johann Hagmann of Langenlois; brother, Markus Hagmann of Vienna, Austria; stepsister, Monika Sumerer of Langenlois; stepbrother, Rupert Sumerer of Langenlois; father- and mother-in-law, James C. and Wanna Lee Haught of Hagerstown; sister-in-law, Kathryn Morningstar of Framingham, Mass.; brother-in-law, David Haught of Henderson, Nev.; and brother-in-law, Kyle Haught of Hagerstown.

Memorial services will be held at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. N., Hagerstown, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Howell and Rev. Juergen Hilke officiating.

At the family's request, there will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center, c/o Johns Hopkins Hospital, 401 N. Broadway, Suite 1100, Baltimore, MD 21231 to promote cancer research/genetics.




Hayden A. Kirkland


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hayden Ammon Kirkland, 4-month-old son of Kaysee Kirkland III and Peggy Jackson of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

He was born July 19, 2003, in Martinsburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Marqel Colbert and his twin brother, Dayshawn Kirkland; grandparents, David and Vickie Robinson of Martinsburg; Kaysee Kirkland of Georgia, Glenda Newcomb of Martinsburg; great-grandparents, Lois Brumby of Georgia, Peggy and Scott Myers of Martinsburg; an aunt; two uncles; and one cousin.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens. The Rev. Todd Brown will officiate.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Mattie M. Apple


BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mattie Medora Apple, 94, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1909, in Snow Hill, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Hattie West.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Henry Apple, in 1958. They were married in May 1937.

She attended Salisbury State Teachers College in Salisbury, Md., and Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

She was a teacher, retiring in 1974 from a school in Westminster, Md., after 10 years there.

She was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Joseph H. Apple of Reston, Va.; five nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marge Myers and Mildred Davis; and two brothers, Otha West and Tubby West.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Jim McMahan will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Md.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, Wilkes and Congress Streets, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Arrangements are by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.




Davis R. Grove


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Davis R. Grove, 68, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1935, in Inwood, W.Va., he was the son of the late D. Reynolds and Ruth Linton Grove.

He retired as a claims adjuster with Aetna Insurance Company.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Miller Grove; one daughter, Julia A. Moore of Martinsburg; one son, Davis D. Grove of Temecula, Calif.; two grandchildren; and cousins.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martinsburg High School football program, c/o David Walker, 701 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.




Catherine L. Shuman


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine L. Shuman, 79, of Penn Hall and formerly of 8 Lakewood Court, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 15, 1924, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Sarah Shaw LaFortezza.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John S. Shuman Jr., on Oct. 9, 2003.

She was a graduate of Seton High School in Baltimore.

She was a professional singer and dancer, known as Kay Fortez, performing at the Hippodrome in Baltimore, Radio City Music Hall in New York City and the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, N.J. among others. She retired when she married in 1942.
