November 24, 2003|by DON AINES

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was discovered late Sunday morning in a room at the Econo Lodge, 735 Buchanan Trail East.

Trooper Ed Asbury said the body was discovered at 11:20 a.m. after a cleaning crew at the motel knocked on the door of room 214 several times without getting a response. Asbury said there were no signs of injuries or foul play.

The woman was white, in her early 20s and was believed to be from the area, according to Asbury, who said her name would not be released pending notification of her family.

Asbury said he had no information about how long the woman had been staying in the room, or whether anyone else was registered to stay there. Asbury also said he did not know if police were looking for anyone who may have been in the motel prior to discovery of the body.

Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said he would not release the name of the woman or any other information until after an autopsy, scheduled for this morning at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa.

Conner would not comment on how long the woman had been dead or speculate on the possible cause of death.
