Officers nabbing impaired drivers


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Town Police charged six people with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs within five weeks.

The enforcement effort started Oct. 17 and will continue until Jan. 16, 2004, police said.

Police said Friday that the following people had been arrested as of Nov. 17:

  • Richard Bosques, 43, of 9735 Kings Crown Court, Unit 2, Fairfax, Va., on charges of driving under the influence and speeding

  • Michael Green, 41, of 92 Phoebe Way, Inwood, W.Va., on charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 percent

  • Billy Jack Yonts, 29, of 2015 Oak Hill Park, Harpers Ferry, W.Va., on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 percent and not having an operator's license

  • Belinda Renee Jenkins, 42, of 20201 Carrie St., Detroit, Mich., on charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 percent

  • Blane Landmesser, 37, of P.O. Box 235, Bluemont, Va., on charges of driving under the influence - third offense, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 percent and speeding

  • Cleto Tema, 30, of no fixed address, on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .10 percent, speeding and not having an operator's license.


In addition, police said they charged Thomas Swiger, 21, of Route 2, Box 879, Harpers Ferry, with having defective equipment, permitting an unauthorized person to drive, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstructing an officer, underage consumption/possession of beer and possession of marijuana.

Three charged with drug offenses


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Three people were charged with drug offenses after Martinsburg Police and a West Virginia State Police dog unit searched two city residences Friday.

At about 5 p.m., police used a warrant to search 114 N. Maple St. Police said they found suspected marijuana, crack cocaine and methadone inside.

Shaun Lee Hite, 24, who lives there, was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Janet Bernadette Stubbs, 40, of 728 W. King St., Martinsburg, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of methadone.

Laura Marie Hite, 30, also of 114 N. Maple Ave., was arrested on an unrelated warrant for driving off without paying for gas, police said.

A second warrant was used to search 418 Winchester Ave. Police said they found suspected heroin and marijuana there.

A resident who police did not identify was given a citation for possession of a controlled substance.

SUV, car collide on Halfway Boulevard


HALFWAY - A sport utility vehicle and a car collided on Halfway Boulevard Friday, sending both drivers and a passenger to Washington County Hospital.

A 17-year-old girl was driving south in a Chevy Cavalier, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

At about 6 p.m., the girl failed to stop at a red light and hit a Honda CR-V driven by Christi Lee Branch, 34, police said. Branch's hometown was not available.

Police said Branch was turning left onto southbound Interstate 81 when her vehicle was hit.

Branch was in the emergency room at 10:30 p.m. Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The 17-year-old driver of the Cavalier and her 16-year-old passenger also were taken to the hospital, police said.
