A 16-year-old boy was in critical condition after crashing his car while driving on U.S. 40 Friday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Emergency workers freed the boy, who was not identified, from the wreckage and took him to Washington County Hospital.

Police said the boy was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile east on U.S. 40. It went off the road near Ruble Road and hit several trees, police said.

The sheriff's department asked anyone with information to call 240-313-2170.
