Landfill contract awarded

November 20, 2003|by TARA REILLY

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a Sparks, Md., firm a $73,020 contract to design the third cell of the Forty West Landfill.

The County Commissioners voted unanimously to award the contract to EA Engineering, Science and Technology Inc. The cell's design is expected to be completed by April 16, 2004.

The design cost will be nearly $47,000 less than the $120,000 budgeted by the county.

Construction of the cell is anticipated to be completed by Dec. 16, 2004, according to a county document.

County officials decided earlier this year to move up construction of the third cell because the landfill has been filling up faster than expected.

The third cell's construction cost is estimated at $4.2 million, according to the document. The county has $4.98 million budgeted for the total project.
