Local man pleads guilty to assault


A Hagerstown man pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of second-degree assault in Washington County District Court, court records state.

Authorities withdrew charges of attempted second-degree sex offense and false imprisonment against Richard W. Fawley of 114 E. Franklin St.

A woman alleged that on Oct. 3, Fawley pinned her on the ground and attempted to have sex with her, records state.

Fawley has not been sentenced.




Road-rage case goes to Circuit Court


Probable cause was found last Thursday in Washington County District Court against a Hagerstown man charged in connection with a road-rage incident near the Robinwood medical campus, court records state.

The case against Matthew E. Finch, 45, of 1215 Glenwood Ave., was forwarded to Circuit Court.

Finch is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and negligent driving, according to records.

Authorities allege Finch grabbed David Matthias by his shirt near the green entrance to the Robinwood medical campus on Sept. 23 and brandished a knife after the two nearly were involved in a vehicle collision, records say. Authorities allege Finch threatened to cut Matthias' throat, records state.
