Food service inspections

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in October 2003 and found to have critical violations that needed to be corrected immediately:

The Grille at Park Circle, 325 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown - * beef vegetable soup and Maryland crab soup both need to kept at 140 degrees or hotter (corrected); lightbulbs over dish machine must be shielded; broiler, char-broiler, exhaust hood and filters all need to be cleaned; walls need to be repaired; new refrigerator doesn't meet commercial requirements.

Burhan's Station, 305 S. Burhans Blvd., Hagerstown - * ice scoop cannot be stored in icemaking machine (corrected); all wipe cloths must be stored in sanitizer; hood filters, equipment line, floor behind equipment line and floor around crab pot must be cleaned; product cannot be stored on floor of walk-in; broken hand sink must be repaired; thermometers needed in beer cooler.

KFC, 17700 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown - * must dispose of all products covered with condensation (corrected); all wipe cloths must be stored in sanitizer; single-service items cannot be stored on the floor (corrected); hand sink cannot be blocked; storeroom floors and all equipment need to be cleaned; light in walk-in must be repaired.

Washington County Detention Center, 500 Western Maryland Parkway, Hagerstown - * dented cans must be discarded (corrected); lid on bulk container must be replaced; repairs needed on storage room walls; ice machine lip must be cleaned; choking poster must be displayed.

Red Lobster, 1681 Wesel Blvd., Hagerstown - * two tubs of hamburger covered with condensation must be discarded (corrected); all wipe cloths must be stored in sanitizer; dispose of cracked pan; replace lights in hood; top of oven must be cleaned; hand sink cannot be blocked; outside door seal needs to be repaired; all product must be protected from condensation; no personnel drinks are allowed in preparation area.

The following food service establishments were inspected by the Washington County Health Department in October 2003 and found to have sanitation violations which must be corrected within 30 days:

Deer Park Lodge, 21614 National Pike, Boonsboro - broken, cracked or chipped floor tiles must be replaced; seal gaps and holes in walls and ceiling.

Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, Valley Mall, Hagerstown - can opener needs to be cleaned; ice scoop improperly stored in ice bin; must display 2003 state license.

Bester Elementary School, 30 E. Memorial Blvd., Hagers-town - light shields and ceiling tiles must be replaced.

Rocky's Pizza, 1 Public Square, Hagerstown - hood filters must be replaced; hood needs to be cleaned; thermometers required in all refrigeration/freezer units; repair or replace broken ceiling panels, floor and walls.

Sharpsburg Elementary School, 17525 Shepherdstown Pike, Sharpsburg - broken tiles and cracks in wall must be repaired.

Valley Coffee Company, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - three-compartment procedures for washing dishes must be followed.

Leitersburg Hotel, 21400 Leiter St., Hagerstown - hot water valve at hand sink in men's restroom must be repaired.

Sander's Cookie Jar Bakery, 13140 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown - floors in the walk-in freezers/refrigerators need to be cleaned; interior of refrigerators need to be cleaned.

Maugans Avenue Shell, 18404 Maugans Ave., Hagers-town - cracked ice scoop must be replaced; thermometers required for checking and ensuring cooking and reheating temperatures; hand washing sink needs to be repaired.

Franco's Cafe and Lounge, 500 Mitchell Ave., Hagerstown - hand sink cannot be blocked; potatoes cannot be stored on the floor.

TGI Fridays, 17840 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown - wipe cloths must be stored in sanitizer; all bulk containers must be labeled and dated; personnel drinks not allowed in preparation area; no product can be stored on the floor; paper towels needed at hand sink (corrected); ice machine lid and outside need to be cleaned.

McDonald's, 17601 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown - hand sink cannot be blocked; outside of ice machine needs cleaning; no food or single service items can be stored on the floor; all products must be protected from condensation; wipe cloths must be stored in sanitizer; hood filters, inside of juice machine and soda nozzles all need to be cleaned.

Harman's Tavern, 504 Salem Ave., Hagerstown - door seal needed to be installed.

Frank and Stein/U.S. Bistro, 17301 Valley Mall Road, Hagerstown - hand sink needs to be repaired; 2003 permit reflecting new ownership needs to be obtained.

The following food service establishments had no violations in October 2003: Hayloft Tavern, 455 Jefferson St., Hagerstown; Fountaindale Elementary School, 901 Northern Ave., Hagerstown; Salem Avenue Elementary School, 1323 Salem Ave., Hagerstown.
