WILKESBORO, N.C. - Eariel Gholson had 16 points, seven assists and five steals to lead the Hagerstown Community College Lady Hawks past Wilkes Community College, 100-62.

Alicia Romero was HCC's (2-0) leading scorer with 22 points while Veronica Johnson added 15 points and 4 assists.


HCC winless in tourney

TOLEDO, Oh. - Hagerstown Community College ventured to the NJCAA Division II national volleyball tournament at Owens Community College on Friday and came away winless in five pool-play matches.

HCC lost to Scottsdale (Ariz.) 30-20, 30-15, 30-20; Kishwaukee (Ill.) 30-16, 30-14, 30-21; Johnson County (Kan.) 30-19, 32-30, 21-30; Northwest Shoals (Ala.) 30-21, 30-24, 30-26 and to Kirkwood (Ia.) 30-16, 30-15, 30-20.

Susanna Hill had 12 kills for the Rams as they were eliminated 30-23, 31-29, 31-29 by Alderson-Broaddus in WVIAC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinal action. Shepherd ends 18-14.

Shepherd Volleyball pair honored

Junior setter Nicole Morgan (North Hagerstown High School) and Freshman outside hitter Susanna Hill (Grace Academy) of the Shepherd volleyball team were recently honored earning Honorable Mention All-WVIAC Honors. Hill was also elected to the All-Freshman team and was named WVIAC Freshman of the Year.


Flag football playoffs

The Washington County Flag Football League playoffs begin today with three games at Marty Snook Park. The championship game will be played Nov. 29 at noon.

The league is hosting the MD/VA/DC 9-man Flag Football Championships on Nov. 22 and 23 at Marty Snook Park. Teams from the Washington County league will compete against teams from Cumberland, Baltimore, Washington and Northern Virginia.

Today's playoff schedule: 9 a.m. - Gold's Gym (0-8) vs. Miller Lite (3-5); 11 - Crazy Horse (8-0) vs. Gold's-Miller Lite winner; 1 p.m. - Jan Pro (3-5) vs. Mack Trucks (6-2).
