I-70 widening begins

November 13, 2003

HANCOCK - The work to widen and replace the deck on both bridges of Interstate 70 over the Great Tonoloway Creek has begun and motorists could face delays.

The Maryland State Highway Administration advises that westbound motorists may encounter single-lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

When the westbound span is complete, lane closures will be made along eastbound I-70 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

During the work, drivers need to be alert for the work zone and reduce speed, the SHA advises. The $6.5 million contract for the work was awarded to Archer Western Inc., of Richmond, Va.
