Area roundup - Packers, Bears set for junior football title game

YOUTH LEAGUE



The Washington County Junior Football League championship game between the Williamsport Bears and the Hagerstown Packers is set for Monday at 8 p.m.

The consolation game between the Smithsburg Jets and the Hagerstown Giants will precede the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Marty Snook Park.

City Championship Game


Hagerstown Packers 46, Hagerstown Giants 13: Jovann Carter had more than 150 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns, while Michael McMillan ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns and both Gerald Tonsil and Alan Barnett scored for the Packers. Nick Anderson and Greg Pheabus both scored for the Giants.

County Championship Game


Williamsport Bears 8, Smithsburg Jets 3: D.J. Love scored on a run, while Kyle Cunningham had a two-point kick and Brian Smith had 10 tackles for the Bears. Andrew Fowkes kicked a 30-yard field goal for the Jets.

City Division Playoffs


Hagerstown Packers 40, Hagerstown Browns 13: Mike McMillan scored three touchdowns, including a reception from Kevin Breslin, for the Packers, while Breslin added a touchdown run and Jovann Carter had two touchdown runs. Brandon Burnett ran in a fumble recovery for a score, and Delon Agee also scored for the Browns.

Hagerstown Giants 20, Hagerstown Steelers 14: Nick Anderson, Greg Pheabus and Timothy Gullace each scored for the Giants. Anthony Lee and T.J. Smith each ran in a touchdown for the Steelers.

County Division Playoffs


Williamsport Bears 20, Smithsburg Patriots 12: Darian Scott had two touchdown runs, Dylan Zimmerman added a rushing touchdown and Kyle Cunningham had a two-point kick for the Bears. Ben Daniels and Josh Edwards both scored for the Patriots.

Smithsburg Jets 14, Hancock Raiders 8: Brian Faulders threw a touchdown pass to Jason Kendall while J.P. Hartley ran in a score for the Jets. John Clark scored and Jamie Sorson had a two-point kick for the Raiders.

3-4 Grade Division


Hagerstown Chiefs 12, Clear Spring Cardinals 0: C.J. Davis rushed for a touchdown and also returned an interception for a score for the Chiefs.

Hagerstown Eagles 12, Boonsboro Colts 6: Austin Scott ran for more than 125 yards and scored twice for the Eagles. Justin Lewis had a touchdown for the Colts.

Smithsburg Jaguars 20, Williamsport Ravens 12: Thomas Smith had two rushing touchdowns and Robbie Hogue added a score for the Jaguars. Tyler Byers and Todd Welch both scored on runs for the Ravens.

Hagerstown Eagles 18, Hancock Panthers 0: Austin Scott ran for over 100 yards and two touchdowns, and Christopher Myers added a touchdown for the Eagles.

Smithsburg Jaguars 12, Hagerstown Chiefs 6: Brock Heiston and Brad Spickler each had a rushing touchdown for the Jaguars. C.J. Davis scored for the Chiefs.

Williamsport Ravens 6, Clear Spring Cardinals 0: Tyler Byers scored on a run while Zach Stains had two interceptions for the Ravens.




JV FOOTBALL



Boonsboro 46, Williamsport 6


Kyle Cane rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns for Boonsboro, while Matt Rhoderick had a 29-yard TD run, Matty Wetzel had a 25-yard TD run, Patrick Fogle returned a kickoff 68 yards for a score, David Starleper returned an interception 31 yards for a TD and Ira Redman and Scott Middledorf each had an interception.

Kurtz named all-conference


Frostburg State University freshman Sheila Kurtz, a Boonsboro High grad, was recently named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team.




BRIEF



Herald-Mail vs. Public Opinion II


The second annual Four Diamonds Senior All-Star Soccer Game, pitting The Herald-Mail's senior Washington County stars against the Public Opinion's senior Pennsylvania stars, is set for Nov. 20 at Waynesboro High School. Game time is 7 p.m.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

All gate proceeds go to the Four Diamonds Children Cancer Fund.
