Ralph H. Donnelly


HANCOCK - Ralph H. Donnelly, 93, of Hancock, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 9, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late James Alfred and Gerta Colby Donnelly.

He was a graduate of Peekskill Military Academy in Peekskill, N.Y. He received a degree in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1932.

He was a land surveyor and named "Surveyor of the Year" in 1986 by the Maryland Society of Surveyors.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was a member of Hancock Rotary Club; Hancock Historical Society; Mason and Dixon Society; a member and past president of Washington County Historical Society and Maryland Society of Surveyors, among other organizations.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Adele Cohill Donnelly; one grandson, Ralph H. Donnelly III of Boston; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ralph H. Donnelly Jr.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hancock. The Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt Jr. will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Hancock.




Elizabeth G. Lively


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elizabeth G. Johnson Lively, 80, of 228 Philadelphia Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1923, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Monroe Johnson Sr. and Lillian Smith Johnson.

She worked as an administrator for the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C.

She served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1944.

She is survived by her former husband, Thomas A. Lively Sr., whom she married in 1957; four daughters, Anne K. Aden of Waynesboro, Carroll Lively-Solis of Summerland Key, Fla., Margaret M. Melcher of Bowie, Md., and Margarette E. Lively-Wills of Rockville, Md.; one son, Christopher C. Lively of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Monroe Johnson Jr. of Topeka, Kan.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas A. Lively Jr.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.




Zelda M. Lynch


HANCOCK - Zelda Marie Lynch, 58, of Fulton Street, and formerly of Artemas, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 12, 1945, in Little Cove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Roy and Vada Viola Carbaugh Saunders.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Lynch, in 1998.

She was employed by Southern Bell Truck Stop in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a member of the Sugar Shack of Hancock.

She is survived by four daughters, Thumbalena Dove and Shannon M. Lynch, both of Hancock, April Horning of Cumberland, Md., and Bonita Roy; four sons, Ira C. Lynch of Hancock, Charles W. Lynch Jr. of Warfordsburg, Pa., Wayne A. Lynch of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Kevin E. Lynch; seven sisters, Mary Bigler of Hagerstown, Ethel Clevenger of Greencastle, Pa., Anna Seif of West Virginia, Margaret Groff of Las Vegas, Mabel Shipley of Artemas, Pa., Betty Middlekauff of Clear Spring, and Shirley Davis of Chambersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Roger E. Lynch.

A graveside service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg, Pa. The Rev. Gary Quackenbois will officiate.

The family will receive friends today from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home in Hancock.

Jane C. Barnes


BOONSBORO - Jane C. Barnes, 82, of Reeders Memorial Home, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 8, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Pearl I. Taylor Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Parker Barnes.

She was employed as manager of Hagerstown Dairy Bar for 20 years.

She is survived by one son, Joseph P. Barnes of Hagerstown; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Parker Barnes Jr.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.




Clara E. Clark


Clara E. Clark, 87, of 753 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at her home.

Born May 25, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late David Emmert and Harriett Zelene Huyett Clark.

She was a 1934 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was employed by the City of Hagerstown Water Department for 26 years, retiring in 1977.

She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
