Area roundup - Boonsboro, Catoctin advance to 1A region final dates

OAKLAND, Md. - Jessie Ambrose had 11 kills, 21 assists and 11 points to lead Boonsboro to a 3-1 victory over Southern Garrett Wednesday in a Class 1A West semifinal.

The Warriors, who won by scores of 17-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16, advance to the West final.

Kasi Harris had 10 kills, four blocks and 14 points for Boonsboro (16-2), while Caroline Woodhams had seven kills, 16 assists and 12 points and Kim Snavely had 13 digs.

Catoctin 3, Havre de Grace 1


THURMONT, Md. - Katie Campbell had 10 assists, six aces and four digs to lead Catoctin to a 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Havre de Grace.

Kelly Stiles added five kills and five aces for Catoctin. Heather Hagelin had seven kills, six assists and two aces, while Moni Cuddahee recorded six assists, five aces and two digs for the Cougars (8-8).

FSK 3, Middletown 2


MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Kristen Young passed out 29 assists but it fell short as Middledown was outlasted by Francis Scott Key and eliminated 22-25, 9-25, 2-25, 25-18, 16-4 from the Class 2A West semifinal.

Melissa Pfau, Jill Martin, and Allison Jarkey each added seven kills each for Middletown (13-3).

Thomas Johnson 3, Parkville 0


PARKVILLE, Md. - Erin Maldo had 15 kills, 12 service points, and three aces to lead Thomas Johnson to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-18 win in a Region 4A North semifinal match.

Erin Dickman had 13 service points, two aces, and eight digs, while Bethany Springer added nine service points, three blocks, and seven digs and Nicole Bagano recorded 22 assists for the Patriots (12-4).

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. - Stephanie Grimes finished 6th for Mercersburg Academy at the Mid Atlantic Prep League Cross Country Championships finishing the 5K Course in 20:44.

Griffin Burns finished in 17:41 in the boys race.

South 14, Brunswick 6: Josh McNabb and Brock Jamison each had a touchdown for South Hagerstown. McNabb rushed for 80 yards for the Rebels (6-3).

Suns to broadcast on WHAG


The Hagerstown Suns will broadcast their games on WHAG 1410 for the eighth consecutive year next season.

All 140 Suns games, both home and away, will be found on WHAG. The Suns begin their regular season in Lexington on April 8, 2004.

Tri-State Ravens Nest 12 to meet


Former Baltimore Colt Rick Volk will be the guest speaker for the Nov. 13 meeting of The Tri-State Ravens Nest 12 at 7 p.m., at Tony's Italian Restaurant.

The meeting is open to members and their guests. Memberships are available for those over 21 for $25 a year.

Berkeley Co. basketball leagues holding registation


Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation is currently holding registration for the 2004 Berkeley County Boys Basketball League, open to any boy in grades 3-8. Registration is ongoing and the deadline is December 1, and applications need to be received by that date to guarantee team placement. Any application received after that date will be placed on teams on a first come, first serve basis as registration numbers permit. All applications must be sent with a registration fee of $30. A copy of the child's birth certificate should also be sent if one has not already been filed with Parks and Recreation.

Registration is also being held for the 2004 Berkeley County Squirt Basketball League, open to all grade 1-2 boys and girls who have completed at least one session of Mighty Mites Instructional Basketball. The deadline is December 4, and a $30 fee must accompany all applications.

The High School Boys Basketball league is also currently having registration. This league is open to boys ages 14-18. The deadline for registration is December 19, and all applications require a $30 fee.
