Ruth I. Snowberger


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ruth I. Smith Snowberger, 95, of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 45 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at the home.

Born June 27, 1908, in Rouzerville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Jesse B. Mong Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob H. Snowberger, in 1980. They were married Jan. 31, 1924.

She attended Waynesboro schools.

She was employed as a machine operator at Waynesboro Knitting Co. from 1940 to 1965.

She attended Waynesboro Gospel Chapel.

She is survived by three daughters, Lucille S. Gerhold and Leola M. Myers, both of Waynesboro, and Aurelia N. Baker of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Ordean D. Snowberger and Kenneth J. Snowberger, both of Waynesboro; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bernadine E. Myers.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. Roger K. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Adeline Howlings


Adeline Howlings, 75, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 30, 1928, in Ozone Park, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George and Jennie Hughes Reynolds.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Howlings.

She retired from Presbyterian Nursery School in Massapequa, N.Y., as a teacher.

She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Williamsport and taught Sunday School.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Williamsen of Hagerstown; one son, John W. Howlings of Florida; and three grandchildren, Lawrence Williamsen and Jason Williamsen, both of Hagerstown, and Justin Howlings of Florida.

Services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport. The Rev. Mark Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Queens, N.Y.




Laverne McAllister


WILLIAMSPORT - Laverne McAllister, 83, of 11310 Sword Road, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at her home.

Born March 16, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John Ellsworth and Willa Victoria Sharon Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton McAllister, in 1971.

She worked for Federal Silk Mill in Williamsport.

She was a Protestant.

She was a member of American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport.

She is survived by three sisters, Claudine Fink of Carlisle, Pa., Regina Miller of Washington, D.C. and Shirley Piper of Marlowe, W.Va.; four brothers, Charles Miller of Carlisle, Francis Miller of Topping, Va., John Miller of Chinagrove, N.C. and Robert Miller of Williamsport; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Janice Miller, Lucena Johnson, and Freida Young; and three brothers, Eugene Miller, Charles Miller, and Wallace Miller.

Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. The Rev. Emmert Banzhoff will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport.




Rosalie B. Nowell


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rosalie B. Nowell, 87, of Penn Hall Nursing Center, and formerly of 15757 Clearview Ave., State Line, Pa., died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at the nursing center.

Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Minnie Mayhugh Byers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Nowell, on March 9, 2003. They were married June 4, 1938.

She was a 1934 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1938 graduate of the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing.

She was a registered nurse, retiring after 20 years from Western Maryland Hospital Center.

She was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Greencastle AARP Chapter 3025; and Interstate Coin Club of Hagerstown.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie A. Decker of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, John O. Nowell of Southport, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle. Chaplain Robert E. Keener and Pastor Douglas Courter will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Terry L. Miley


HANCOCK - Terry Lee "Buck" Miley, 53, of Quaker Creek Road, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at his home.

Born June 20, 1950, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lloyd Jacob Miley Sr. and Thelma Jeanette Baker Miley.
