Mail Call

November 01, 2003

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"This is Frances and I want to say Veterans Day is coming up on Nov. 11, and I would like to know why The Herald-Mail isn't giving any more publicity than what they are."

"Charity begins at home, if you want to donate and help out. We adopt a family every year from CASA. I know that the things I buy and what I do for these people are local people who really need and appreciate our help."

"I saw in the paper on Tuesday where Delegate Myers is trying to help the people of Cumberland with the criminals that they want to send to that town. I just wanted to say that I give Myers a lot of credit."

"When is The Maryland Theatre going to start getting some quality entertainment instead of the same old same old?"

"I read in the paper where the County Commissioners approved a right-to-farm bill. Does that include making movies on farms, too?"

"Apparently the commissioners who approved the right to farm bill never had to concentrate, study, sleep or eat beside a farm that has a grain dryer. You might as well be standing beside a jet plane. Of course, all the County Commissioners are city folks, they wouldn't know."

"I lost a pair of prescription sunglasses. They were in a hard purple case. I live in the Cedar Lawn area. Call me at 301-733-3671 if you find them."

"I am interested in finding information on the Red Hat Society, that I read about in The Daily Mail recently. I think the story said that there are three chapters in the Hagerstown area. If anyone has any information on this society for women over 50, call Mail Call and leave your number."

"The lower paid state employees need a pay raise, not the ones that are already making the big wages."

"I read in the paper the other day where someone suggested two hospitals. That has been my thought all along. This is a great idea for Hagerstown."

"Congratulations to Austin Summers for making the honor roll. We knew you could do it, we are proud of you. Love, mommy, grandma and pappy."

"Does anyone know when the Dunkin Donuts on Dual Highway is going to be open?"

"Concerning the new hospital being built at Robinwood. I think it's a great idea and I don't know why for the life of me why the city of Hagerstown feels that they have the right to keep it there. It would be different if the city owned the hospital, but they don't. This is causing a lot of problems. Take a survey and see what everyone thinks."

"Hi, Doug, I want to tell you that I am so sorry your Yankees lost. But as you know, it sure made me happy. We have been friends for ages. I sure send you my sympathy on the loss of the World Series."

"The picture on the 79th Mummers' Parade insert in Thursday's paper, those little girls would look cuter if they would pull their shirts up and cover their belly buttons."

"I just wanted to let the Smithsburg PTA know that we are very disappointed with the fund-raiser that was sent home this year. Every year, they always have a very nice fund-raiser, I always sell a lot in my neighborhood, but nobody wants to buy this year because it's frozen cookie dough with outrageous prices. Please bring back Wolfgang or something better."
