Mail Call

October 31, 2003

"I would like to let Bill and Trudy know that we are praying for Dusty. This is a terrible thing that has happened to him and he needs for us to pray for him every day. If there is anything that we can do for you, let us know. Our prayers are with you

"We attended the 10 a.m. show at Cinema 10 on Leitersburg Pike on Saturday with our grandsons. We wish to commend the young people who work in the theater. They give you a friendly greeting and they are all courteous and helpful. We wish to compliment all of them."

"To the person about the handicapped sticker. When you get the handicapped sticker, the Department of Motor Vehicles tells you not to put it in the window until you get to where you are going. Please check with the motor vehicle place, then start complaining."

"If you are a senior born between the years of 1917 and 1926, or so-called notch baby, and have been receiving fliers promising a lump settlement of $5,000 or higher Social Security benefits, please disregard them. These fliers ask you to provide your name, address, phone number, date of birth and Social Security number in order to be placed on a national victims register. They also solicit donations for upkeep of the registry. This is a hoax and has even been a subject of Congressional hearings spotlighting mail scams targeting seniors. The Social Security Administration has advised people that if they suspect that they have received misleading information to send the complete mailing, including the envelope, to Office of the Inspector General, Social Security Administration, 6401 Security Boulevard, Room 300, Altmeyer Building, Baltimore, MD 21235."

"Just wondering how many of you unemployed people hate it when a temp service has signs up, hiring, but when you get there, there are no jobs? Shouldn't there be something done about that?"

"I lost a cameo pin last week. I was around the Bob Evans Restaurant, the Centre at Borders and Office Max. If anyone finds it, please return it to me. I am offering a reward. It has sentimental value. Call me at 301-733-1641."

"After reading the paper and seeing how propane gas and heating fuel is going to be high this year, we residents are welcoming the new propane gas company."

"I just saw that a local church spent $85,000 to repair an old Moller organ. This is fine, but the city needs a homeless shelter, so they say. Why couldn't that church have spent a much smaller amount on an electronic organ and donated the rest toward the homeless in Hagers-town?"

"Has any thought been given into having two hospitals? Then people wouldn't be complaining about transportation. It makes more sense to have two to better serve the people who live around downtown and they would have one for the people in the outskirts of town."

"I think it's time for the United States to get their troops out of the Middle East and let them kill each other off. I guarantee you that there aren't any sons or daughters of any of the prominent politicians over there in the Middle East fighting. So why should we sacrifice our men and women over there? Those people hate the United States and what we stand for. So let's get out of there."

"I don't think it was very wise to make trick-or-treat on Friday night. That is the most dangerous night of the week for traffic. The drunks and the little kids shouldn't be out walking around. That is why they originally changed it to a Thursday night."

"My 13-year-old son's bike was stolen outside the Valley Mall movie theaters on Friday, Oct. 24. He only had this bike for one week, it was an early Christmas present. He was very upset. It was a red and white Schwin bike. Call 301-491-6626, if you have any information."

"I noticed in Monday's paper that someone wanted to know when Woodmore Development is having trick-or-treat. It has always been the last Thursday in October from 6 to 8 p.m. in Woodmore. Someone has always been in charge of making fliers to put in Woodmore mailboxes a week or two before Halloween. Someone told me a lady was in charge of it this year. But I haven't seen anything yet."

"I read in Mail Call where a lot of people are talking about deer whistles and where you can buy them. They don't always work. A few years ago, I had them on my car, but a deer jumped off the bank down onto the hood of my car. Maybe he thought that I was whistling for him and not for him to get out of the way."

"Regarding the person who found the Bakery Salesman's order book. I believe that it may be my father's. I would be interested in contacting the person who has it. You can call me at 301-739-2258, preferably in the evenings."

"If you read this and you called a local construction company to trim your house in December, please call back with your name and number. We accidentally deleted your name and number."

"I just read where they are going to renovate the testing and pre-admission room at the hospital. This is ridiculous when they are planning on selling the hospital and rebuilding it."

"I would like to say thanks to the employees of Hagerstown Honda-Kia. Each of you are so kind and generous in supporting the young kids with their fund-raiser. Our son needed to raise band money for his trip to Florida in the spring. With only two fund-raisers, he has what he needs. It is because of your generosity, he has this opportunity to experience making memories with his friends. You are all willing to support any child. Thanks again to all the employees of Hagerstown Honda-Kia."
