Council OKs increase in cable channel spending


The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday approved a proposal to spend an additional $15,750 this fiscal year for expenses related to the city's increased use of a cable channel.

Since earlier this year the city has been broadcasting council meetings live and repeating them later in the week.

Under the proposal, $10,750 of the increase would come from the Community Betterment Fund to pay for start-up programming. The other $5,000 would come from the city's contingency fund.




City presents resolution honoring George J. Andreve


The City of Hagerstown presented a resolution of appreciation Tuesday to retiring Community Development Manager George J. Andreve.

Andreve was hired March 1, 1990, and has served in that position since. His retirement is effective Dec. 4.




City Council votes to continue ice rink subsidy


The Hagerstown City Council voted Tuesday to continue paying an annual subsidy of about $134,000 to the organization operating the Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex.

The city also agreed to continue renting the facility to the Washington County Sports Foundation Inc.
