Two shot at W.Va. nightclub

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two Virginia men were shot in the parking lot at KC's Leather & Lace strip bar and nightclub south of Martinsburg early Saturday morning, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said.

Shawn Hailey, 22, of Winchester, Va., was shot in the face, according to a police news release. He was transferred to Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., from City Hospital in Martinsburg, the release states.

A woman who answered the phone at the nursing office at Washington Hospital Center would not reveal Hailey's condition.

Darrin K. Edwards, 28, of Stephens City, Va., was in serious condition at City Hospital on Saturday morning, the nursing supervisor said.


Edwards was shot in the shoulder area and was scheduled to undergo surgery Saturday, the police news release states.

Sheriff's Department deputies and West Virginia State Police went to KC's on Winchester Avenue around 3:15 a.m. following a report of a shooting, Deputy Trampus Boyles said.

A fight inside the club led into the parking lot, where several shots were fired, Boyles said.

Two vehicles also were damaged by gunfire, the release states.

The weapon had not been recovered as of Saturday morning, Boyles said.

"A person of interest" was being sought by police for further information and possible involvement, the release states.

The investigator, Cpl. B.F. Hall, could not be reached.
